Best Seasons for Everest Three High Passes Trekking:

March to May and September to early December months of the year, best time of March to May when most days are clear for views and as well for pleasant walks with moderate temperatures and longer sunlight hours.

March to May with wild flowers in full bloom enjoy the scenery of mountains with bright and beautiful wild flower in season, especially rhododendron of various species from trees to bush of different colored flowers (national flower of Nepal the rhododendron).

March to May in late afternoon can be cloudy with chances of rain and snow sometimes during the walk around high altitude.

Mid September to early December in autumn /fall and pre winter another best months with clear blue sky and sunny days (for short while from morning to mid day) can be cold and freezing during morning and night times above 1,800 m high.

Sunlight is short during autumn and winter seasons but most of the morning till late afternoon are clear for views and pleasant walks can expect snow around higher altitude and on passes.

Everest Three High Passes Trekking follows on scenic trail of Dudh Kosi River valley and gorge, after flying into Lukla, a gateway town for all adventure around high Khumbu area as walk proceeds past lovely looking farm villages inhabited by Sherpa the highlanders of Everest.

Walk leads into beautiful cool alpine woodland of tall rhododendron, oaks, magnolia, pines and silver fir trees to reach at famous Namche Bazaar known as the capital of Khumbu Sherpa an interesting place for rest days where one can explore impressive cultures of Sherpa the domain tribe of Nepal Mid East Himalaya.

From Namche Bazaar with pleasant time where walk leads on pleasant scenic trail with climb to beautiful Tengboche monastery encircled with array of peaks with views of Mt. Everest and magnificent Amadablam within forest surroundings.

At Tengboche with time to browse around its monastery of great interest along with excellent scenery of mountains, as walk follows beyond green vegetations and tree lines for arid and barren wide valley, where adventure leads to cross first high pass over Kongma-la.

After ample time to enjoy views and rest days and then traverse highest pass of the adventures to reach Everest Base Camp and stand beneath world number one Mt. Everest enjoying fabulous views of high mighty peaks with massive Khumbu Ice Fall and glaciers.

Next adventure leads to climb on the highest spot at Kalapathar rocky hill top located above 5,545 m facing tremendous views of Everest and Pumori at close distance and then heading towards our second part of the adventure to cross over high Cho-la to reach beautiful and scenic Gokyo valley.

Gokyo Valley enclosed within series of high mountains overlooking views of Mt. Cho-Oyu the 6th world highest peaks that reflects on Gokyo glacial lakes, enjoying marvelous moments at Gokyo where walk leads to steep climb to complete our final last pass crossing Renjo-la.

On reaching on top Renjo-la enjoy glorious panorama of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse, and Makalu with Mt. Cho-Oyu views of world’s four mighty peaks, from here on long downhill to reach at Thame village past Lungdhen situated close on route to Nangpa-la pass a border of Nepal and Tibet.

At Thame overnight in this nice quaint village quite different to other villages with main busy trekking trails, as this area west of Khumbu seldom ventured by trekkers enjoy visit of Thame Gompa the oldest monastery of high Khumbu.

From Thame heading back into green tree lines to reach at Namche and then at Lukla for scenic, short flight to Kathmandu where our fabulous adventure and great experience on Everest Three High Passes completes.

Details Itinerary

Day 01Reach Kathmandu via various countries and airlines.

On arrival at Nepal international airport in Kathmandu, where Professional Trekking Guide staff receives with warm welcome and then transfer to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu.

On checking your rooms getting refreshed then join in at hotel foyer / lobby meeting with other members of the trek, where our guide will brief providing information on Everest Three High Pass trekking.

Evening group welcome dinner in a nice Nepalese environment restaurant with native folk culture programs along with the dinner.

Day 02A day in Kathmandu preparation for trek with options for tour.

A free day in Kathmandu you can enjoy at leisure as well preparation for the trek, on this day interested people can join in our exciting guided sightseeing tour for half or full day tour at places of great interest around World Heritage Sites.

Day 03Fly to Lukla 2,820 m and trek to Phakding 2,640 m - 04 hrs.

Our morning drive takes us from Swiss lakes to Swiss Army. At the once-secret Swiss army bunker at Fortress Fürigen, we’ll see part of the massive defense system designed to keep Switzerland strong and neutral. Afterward, a short drive into the countryside brings us to the charming Alpine village of Engelberg, our picturesque home for the next two days. We’ll settle into our lodge then head out for an orientation walk. Our stroll through the village will end at the Engelberg Abbey, a Benedictine monastery with its own cheese-making operation. You’ll have free time to wander back before dinner together. Sleep in Engelberg (2 nights). Bus: 1 hr. Walking: light.

Day 04Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m - 05 hrs.

Today’s walk starts on pleasant trail within small forest of pines and rhododendron trees facing views of peaks, as walk follows river upstream to cross a long bridge to enter Sagarmatha National Park near Monjo village.

Sagarmatha National Park also a world heritage sites from here walk follows on river gorge and to cross a high bridge where long uphill climb leads to Namche Bazaar, a large village almost the size of a town and the hub of Sherpa as well for visitors.

At Namche Bazaar the only place on route base camp with facilities of ATM, Banks, post office, Cyber Café, Trekking / Climbing stores and shops with café, bakeries and restaurants include views of Kwangde peaks.

Day 05Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and excursion.

Namche Bazaar an ideal place for rest and for acclimatization day at an altitude 3,440 m high, morning having breakfast where short excursion and hike takes you on top of Namche a place with interesting museum provide information of the Khumbu / Everest area of Sherpa religions, culture, history, mountaineering to flora and flora.

High hill of Namche offers stunning views of Amadablam, Tharmarserku, Kantega, Kwangde, Khumbila with Mt. Everest and Lhotse towards North, after an impressive morning head back to lodge for lunch with afternoon free to relax and catch up with the dairy and browse around the street of Namche, where once a week Saturday market / bazaar takes place.

Day 06Trek to Tengboche 3,867 m - 05hrs.

Enjoying rest day at Namche, morning with short climb and then walk on scenic trail along the path lined with rhododendron and pine trees with views of Amadablam and Everest.
As walk then descend to Imjatse River at Phunge Tenga, a small place with few tea shops, a favorite lunch stop place.

After a refreshing break, where second half of the trek leads to a climb for few hours into cool shade of forest to reach on top at Tengboche and the monastery, a scenic spot with grand views of Amadablam, Kantega, Thamersarkhu, Kwangde and Mt. Everest.

Day 07Trek to Dingboche 4,260 m - 05hrs.

Morning enjoy panorama of mountains with Everest, after breakfast downhill into nice rhododendron and pines forest, a pleasant walk to reach a bridge over Imja Khola.

From the bridge slow climb to reach the last permanent village at Pangboche on the way towards Everest Base Camp, after Pangboche tree line stops.
Walk slowly leads with views of Mt. Amadablam at close distance, after a nice day trek reaching at Dingboche for overnight stop.

Day 08Rest day at Dingboche for acclimatization and excursion.

Another pleasant rest day at Dingboche for better acclimatization morning enjoy walk to some view point hills to gain more altitude to support acclimatization.

Dingboche offers views of Amadablam North Face with Island / Imjatse Peak, includes Nuptse and Lhotse mountains, a short high climb to a high ridge provides views of world’s 5th highest Mt. Makalu and Amphu Labtsa peaks.

Day 09Trek to Chukung 4,730 m -04 hrs.

After pleasant rest at Dingboche short treks of few hours to Chukung a small settlement with small numbers of lodges, located at the end of scenic Imjatse Valley, as walk leads towards east facing views of Amadablam-Lobuche and towering Island Peak.

At Chukung afternoon free to enjoy views of mountain with preparation for next early adventure over Kongma-la to Lobuche.

Day 10Cross high Kongma-la 5,535m and to Lobuche 4,890 m - 08 hrs.

Start early morning before dawn heading into inner and on high Imjatse valley where route leads beneath Lhotse and Nuptse Mountains walk on faint path to enter a narrow area between Nuptse and Pokalde peaks.

After some rest and then climb on top Kongma-La at 5,535 m and 18,159 ft the highest pass of the adventure, hidden between Nuptse and Mehara peaks, the pass marked with rock cairns and Buddhist prayer flags.

From the top downhill to Khumbu glacier where walk leads you on icy path and moraine following lead guides, then climb over a rubble of rocks and boulders with downhill to overnight at Lobuche after a tough walk of the day.

Day 11Trek to Gorakshep 5,170 m and Everest Base Camp 5,364 m and back at Gorakshep - 06 hrs.

Adventure today takes you to our main final highlights, as morning starts with climb above Khumbu glacier facing view of Mt. Pumori, Lingtrin, Khumbutse and Mt. Everest then reach at Gorakshep, a place with few lodges before Everest Base Camp; after a refreshing stop walk to Everest Base Camp as path leads over moraine to reach our ultimate goal at Everest Base Camp.

A Base Camp enjoying fascinating moments within close to massive Khumbu Ice fall and glacier, where return journey takes you back to Gorakshep for overnight stop after a great day of the adventure.

Day 12Climb to Kalapathar 5,545 m and walk to Dzongla 4, 830 m - 05 hrs.

Early morning climb on top Kalapathar at above 5,545 m, the highest point of the adventure enjoy magnificent views of mountains with Mt. Everest at close distance.

After great views from Kalapathar descend back to Gorakshep for breakfast and continue walk with downhill to Lobuche, walk past away from main trail to reach isolated corners in a small place at Dzongla located at the base of Tsho / Cho-la Pass on route to Gokyo valley for overnight stop.

Day 13Cross Cho-La pass 5,367 m and descend to Thaknak 4,745 m - 07 hrs.

Morning adventure takes you on top of second high pass of the journey, climb on steep slopes over rocky moraine with some ice-sections (sometimes), and then on top of Cho-la, often spelled as ‘Tsho’ offers views of Cholatse-Lobuche East and West peaks with Nirekha peaks.

After a wonderful moments and short rest, descend towards Thaknag around Gokyo Valley area, where walk leads over rocks and moraine to reach a lonely and isolated place at Thaknag for overnight stop before Gokyo Lake.

Day 14Walk to Gokyo Lake 4,800 m - 04 hrs.

Morning walk much easier compared to earlier two tough days, where route leads beneath Ngozumba glacier reaching first lake and then second lake to reach at 3rd lake around beautiful areas of Gokyo, where lodges situated above its glacial lake.

At Gokyo free afternoon to marvel views of world 6th highest Mt. Cho-Oyu that straddles the border of Nepal and Tibet-China. For energetic people can hike up to Gokyo-Ri for panorama of peaks with Everest and Makalu.

Day 15Cross Renjo-la 5,360 m and descend to Lungden 4,380 m - 07 hrs.

Our last and final great pass to complete today, early morning walk leads south of Gokyo Lake, and then climb over rocks and scree path to reach high Renjo-la offering super panorama of mountains with Everest, Lhotse, Cho-Oyu and Makalu towards east includes array mountain range.

After refreshing break at the top, downhill walk past Renjo icy ponds to reach at Lungden located close on route Nangpa-la a border of Nepal and Tibet, at Lungden enjoy rest of the day overlooking views of Kongde peaks.

Day 16Trek to Thame village 3,880 via Marlung - 06 hrs.

From Lungden on completing all three high passes from here on easy walk downhill to Bhote-Kosi River near small farm village of Marlung, where walk leads you on pleasant trail to reach Thame village within a scenic valley around west of Khumbu area, in Thame visit old monastery of Khumbu area, an interesting place full of ancient artifacts, idols and holy Buddhist books with super views of peaks.

Day 17Trek to Namche Bazaar via Thamo - 05 hrs.

After nice overnight stops at Thame, from here on pleasant walk down and then up following a gentle path to Thamo village, and then back into trees and green vegetation as walk reaches you at famous Namche Bazaar for overnight stop.

Day 18Trek back to Lukla - 06 hrs.

A pleasant and relaxing walk as route heads back to Lukla on this last day trek of the adventure, with few short climb brings you back to Lukla for last overnight stop around Khumbu and Everest and farewell to our loyal and friendly porters.

Day 19Fly back to Kathmandu afternoon free at leisure.

Flight starts early morning, transfer to Tenzing and Hillary air terminal at Lukla airport on boarding the plane a sweeping flight of 35 minutes brings you back in Kathmandu and then transfer to respective hotels with rest of the day free at leisure.

Day 20Spare and free day in Kathmandu as contingency.

In Kathmandu a spare as contingency day just in case of flight delay and cancellation at Lukla or in the beginning of the trek, which occurs quite often even in the best time of the year due where bad and unfavorable weather conditions hamper the flight.

If all goes well as our standard itinerary days, where people with interest can join in for optional tour around Kathmandu around place of great interest or enjoy free individual activities and shopping.

Day 21Final departure for homeward bound or to respective countries.

Final and last day in the country of Himalaya wonders with varied interesting cultures, after a memorable time and experience on Everest Three High Passes trekking, with time for your international flight, where our staff and guide transfer you to the airport for flight back home or to next respective port of call.

Please Note:

As per Nepal Civil Aviation rules and norms where flight to Lukla from Kathmandu does not takes place, since last few months from March 2019 where flight operates from a town of Ramechap which is due east from Kathmandu.

To reach Ramechap takes 4-5 hrs drive on private vehicles and vice versa on the way back from Lukla also.
