Day 14: Departure

Day 1: Welcome to Kathmandu!

Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, a courteous representative from our company will be on hand to greet you. They will facilitate your seamless transfer to your designated accommodation.

Nestled in the heart of the city, your chosen hotel is situated in the lively and vibrant neighborhood of Thamel. This locale exudes a lively atmosphere and is replete with a diverse range of eateries, vibrant bars, and boutique stores offering an array of authentic Nepali handicrafts and essential trekking equipment.

Today presents a valuable opportunity for you to acquaint yourself with your assigned guide. This interaction serves as an ideal platform for addressing any final queries or concerns you may have in preparation for your upcoming journey to Everest Base Camp.

Day 2: Kathmandu to Lukla (Flight) to Phakding

The flights bound for Lukla are anticipated to operate from Manthali Airport in Ramechhap District, owing to recent regulatory adjustments and enhancements at the domestic airport in Kathmandu.

This necessitates a four-hour overnight journey from Kathmandu to reach Manthali. The departure from Manthali is scheduled for the early morning, ensuring a timely commencement of your expedition.

Upon your arrival in Lukla, our experienced local porters will be readily available to assist you. As we descend along the trail towards Phakding, the sight of Tibetan prayer flags gently fluttering in the breeze is a reassuring presence. Along the way, you may also encounter local residents engaged in meditative walks, reciting Tibetan mantras.

Day 3: Phakding to Namche Bazaar

Embark on a picturesque trek through lush forests, charming traditional settlements with meticulously tended fields, and sprawling yak pastures. The impressive presence of Thamserku guides us towards the entrance of Sagarmatha National Park.

After a satisfying lunch, we continue our journey towards the vibrant Namche Bazaar. Serving as a central hub for excursions and a gathering place for trekking enthusiasts, this bustling village is the largest Sherpa settlement in the Khumbu Region.

Namche Bazaar also offers a convenient stop for those in need of last-minute essentials from Kathmandu. Explore a range of items, including delightful treats like chocolate, to enhance your provisions.

Day 4 - Namche Bazaar: Rest and Acclimatization Day

Today’s agenda prioritizes acclimatization to help our bodies adjust to the higher altitude. However, it’s essential to understand that this doesn’t mean a day of inactivity. Remaining active is the most effective way to acclimate.

Guests have the option to enjoy a few hours of nearby hiking or pay a visit to the school founded by Sir Edmund Hillary in the Khumjung hamlet. This educational institution serves as a heartfelt tribute to the Sherpa community for their invaluable support during Hillary’s triumphant Mount Everest ascent.

The day’s panoramic view encompasses prominent peaks like Kwangde (6,011 m), Thamserku (6,623 m), Kangtega (6,782 m), Nuptse (7,861 m), Lhotse (8,516 m), the striking Ama Dablam (6,812 m), and, of course, the majestic Mount Everest (8,848 m). These awe-inspiring sights serve as a vivid reminder of the natural wonders surrounding us.

Day 5 - Namche Bazaar to Phortse

Today’s terrain offers a relatively gentle landscape, affording ample opportunity to capture memorable photographs. Focus on capturing the essence of the journey: stupas, adorned with Buddhist symbolism, prayer flags fluttering in the breeze, and mani walls etched with Buddhist invocations. Don’t forget to turn your lens towards the awe-inspiring Ama Dablam and the iconic Tengboche Monastery.

As you traverse the dusty switchbacks in route to Tengboche, the effort is rewarded with expansive vistas from the monastery grounds. If you’re fortunate, you may have the chance to partake in a service, and a modest donation would be appreciated. Additionally, there’s an opportunity to light some traditional butter lamps, adding to the spiritual ambiance.

Day 6 - Phortse to Dingboche

Undoubtedly, the path we tread is graced with breathtaking beauty, yet it presently presents a formidable challenge. Tracing the course alongside the Imja Khola, we ascend to the terraced fields of Dingboche, predominantly adorned with thriving potato crops.

Situated at the loftiest elevation among Sherpa villages in the Khumbu Region, Dingboche offers awe-inspiring and dramatic vistas of the iconic Ama Dablam. Arriving in Dingboche, a well-deserved lunch awaits. The ensuing afternoon grants you the freedom to either lose yourself in a captivating book or immerse yourself in the enchanting mountainous panorama that surrounds us.

Day 7 - Dingboche: Rest and Acclimatization Day

Given the continuous ascent in altitude, it is imperative to allocate another day for acclimatization. Today presents several opportunities for shorter hikes.

A notable option is a visit to the sacred sites and a chance to behold the panoramic views of Mt. Makalu nestled at the base of Nangkar Tshang Peak. This ascent, which typically spans between 3.5 to 5 hours round trip, serves as a beneficial measure to help our bodies adapt to the even higher altitudes that await us.

Day 8 - Dingboche to Lobuche

Today marks the commencement of our journey, with a gradual ascent into the picturesque Pheriche Valley. As we trek above the valley floor, we’ll traverse through enchanting yak pastures and alpine vegetation. Notable peaks like Tawoch and Cholotse come into view, while Ama Dablam graces the horizon behind us, seemingly rising precipitously from the valley depths.

Continuing our trail, we reach the challenging ascent to Thokla Pass. This vantage point offers a breathtaking panoramic spectacle, featuring prominent peaks including Nuptse, Lhotse, Lhotse Shar, and several others, all towering at elevations of 7,000 meters or more. For photographers, this location is nothing short of a dream!

Our journey leads us to Lobuche following our passage across the pass. While the town itself may not be particularly picturesque, the surrounding landscape unfolds in a manner that is nothing short of stunning and dramatic.

Day 9 - Lobuche to Gorakshep and Everest Base Camp, EBC to Gorakshep

Today promises an exhilarating adventure! Our path leads us on an upward journey to the renowned Everest viewing platform. Initially, we’ll navigate through rocky terrain and challenging boulders, a trek that spans nearly three hours, culminating in the charming hamlet of Gorakshep.

Post a nourishing lunch, we embark on the trail to Kalapatthar, where the views of Everest are nothing short of extraordinary. At 5,545 meters, this marks the highest altitude at which we can trek in Nepal without necessitating a climbing permit. Interestingly, its name, meaning “black rock,” pertains to a ridge rather than an independent mountain.

Should the weather favor us, an early morning departure from Kalapatthar offers an equally awe-inspiring sunrise view over Everest, rivalling the splendor of the sunset. In this scenario, we’ll extend our journey to Everest Base Camp today. It’s important to note that trekking groups do not directly enter the base camp, where mountaineering expeditions are established.

This measure ensures that we do not disrupt the climbers’ preparations or jeopardize their well-being. (We certainly wouldn’t want to send them off on their epic voyage with our colds and flu!) Nonetheless, we gain a comprehensive understanding of the activities taking place in this iconic location.

Day 10 - Gorakshep to Kalapathar and Pheriche or Panboche

If we didn’t ascend to Kalapatthar yesterday, this morning would be dedicated to that endeavor, with a return to Gorakshep for a nourishing breakfast. Similarly, if we didn’t make it to Everest Base Camp on day 9, this morning presents an opportunity to do so. The trek back from Gorakshep typically spans between three to four hours.

Post-breakfast, we set forth for Pheriche, an expedition that occupies approximately four hours. Notably, this small community houses the Himalayan Rescue Association Clinic. While it has evolved into a full-fledged hospital over time, its core mission remains dedicated to the well-being of the local populace, as well as addressing altitude-related ailments and other challenges encountered by trekkers and mountaineers. This distinctive aspect of the community is largely sustained by volunteers from the medical field, underscoring its unique and commendable character.

Day 11 - Pheriche to Namche

While the terrain today does involve a notable descent, there are still some hills to conquer! As we draw nearer to Namche, we find ourselves enveloped once again in the embrace of lush forests and verdant scenery.

Given the demanding hike of the preceding day, today’s extended trek may pose added challenges. Nevertheless, press on, for a delectable dinner and a soothing warm shower await you! Now is an ideal moment to celebrate your triumphant journey to Everest Base Camp with a well-deserved beer!

Moreover, with accessible wifi, this presents an opportune time to connect with family members back home and perhaps share some cherished photos from your remarkable expedition.

Day 12 - Namche to Phakding and Lukla

In the morning, bid adieu to the Khumbu Valley and take one last appreciative gaze at the majestic Himalayan peaks, including the formidable Mount Everest. As we embark on our ultimate, steep ascent towards Lukla, it’s advisable to keep a focused mindset and watch your step.

Day 13 - Lukla to Kathmandu

This morning, as we board our flight back to either Kathmandu or Manthali Airport, we bid a fond farewell to the awe-inspiring Mount Everest and the Khumbu Region. Depending on airport availability and weather conditions, we’ll arrive in Kathmandu for a brunch or early afternoon return. Prior to our evening farewell dinner, there will be ample opportunity for some shopping.

Day 14 - Kathmandu: Departure Day

After enjoying breakfast, our representative will ensure that you reach Tribhuvan International Airport in a timely manner for your upcoming departure.
